Disability Services
The Lucas County Department of Job and Family Services offers a wide range of services to people with disabilities who meet the Equal Employment Opportunity Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other federal hiring requirements. The scope of accommodations and services includes, but is not limited to, the designation of a representative in each Job and Family Services One-Stop Office (The Source) to serve persons whose disabilities affect their employment-related needs. - Providing a sign language interpreter as needed for persons with hearing impairments
- Installation of telecommunication devices for the deaf (TDDs)
- Providing a reader, when needed, and CD's for persons with visual impairments
- An established link with other social service agencies that have resources for assisting persons with disabilities obtain employment
- The use of promotional programs, job fairs, and individual job-development activities with employers to market job-seeking customers
- Offering services that will ensure equal opportunity in employment
- Determining the occupational qualifications by assessing work experience, training, education, and interest
- Providing vocational exploration and counseling services
- Promoting and developing acceptance of workers with disabilities on the basis of their abilities
- Coordinating program activities with other groups and agencies serving persons with disabilities
