Lucas County Youth Assessment Center opened on October 1, 2013 after nearly two years of planning and collaboration between the partners of the Lucas County Executive Team; the Lucas County Juvenile Court, Toledo Police Department, Lucas County Sheriff’s Department, Oregon Police Department, Toledo Public Schools, Lucas County Board of Recovery and Mental Health Services, Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities, Educational Service Center of Lake Erie West, Toledo Area Ministries, Lucas County Prosecutor’s Office, Lucas County Public Defender’s Office, Lucas County Family Council, Family Services of Northwest Ohio, Neighborhood Health Association, Ohio Department of Youth Services and the Annie E. Casey Foundation.
The Lucas County Youth Assessment Center, located in the Juvenile Court complex, grew out of the Lucas County Executive Team’s commitment to keeping the community safe through evidenced-based screenings and meaningful interventions for each child and family.

In 2019, the Assessment Center screened 1,076 arrested youth.
