Juvenile Detention Center

Overview

Lucas County Juvenile Detention Center (JDC) provides temporary detention for delinquent youth. The function of JDC is two-fold:

  • To provide temporary, secure detention for youth who present a danger to themselves or to the community, or who may abscond pending the disposition of cases;
  • To coordinate social, psychological, and psychiatric evaluations of children in order to assist and advise the Court regarding the disposition of cases.

Policy and procedures within JDC are guided by compliance with Federal and State laws.

During 2023, JDC had 863 bookings (youth brought to the facility by law enforcement) with 610 admissions (youth detained at least overnight in the facility). Visitation Schedule

  • Visitation with resident youth takes place on Monday, Wednesday and Friday (except on federal legal holidays)
  • Only Parents/Legal Guardians are permitted to visit during regular visitation hours.
  • The first letter of the resident youth's last name determines visitation hours.
  • Visitors for youth with last names starting from A to K must sign in between 5:30 pm and 5:45 pm.  Visitation will take place from 6:00 pm to 6:30 pm.
  • Visitors for youth with last names starting from L to Z must sign in between 6:30 pm and 6:45 pm.  Visitation will take place from 7:00 pm to 7:30 pm.
  • All visitors must present a valid photo I.D. at the time of each visit.
  • If you sign in late, your visitation may be denied.

If you are aware of or suspect alleged sexual misconduct within the Juvenile Detention Center, please complete the PREA Sexual Misconduct Reporting Form.
