About The Lucas County Department of Planning and Development
The Lucas County Department of Planning and Development operates, in part, under the federal
Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) of 2014 (PDF). WIOA is designed to streamline employment and training programs, help job seekers find work, and help employers find workers. WIOA emphasizes broad, local authority in determining workforce development priorities.
WIOA is an employment and training program funded through the United States Department of Labor. The Lucas County Department of Planning and Development administers the program.
The Lucas County Workforce Development Board oversees WIOA programs and services. The WIOA system consists of a variety of government agencies that also receive WIOA funds, along with other non-profit and for-profit employment and training organizations.
