Open Enrollment for Benefits is Under Way

Open Enrollment has already started!

Now through January 24th, is the time to review your current benefits and make any necessary changes.  All changes are effective March 1, 2024.

Please note, this is not a mandatory re-enrollment year. Only individuals seeking to make changes to their current benefits need to re-enroll.

However, if you're enrolled in a medical Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or dependent care account, it's essential to make a selection each year to continue these benefits.

To facilitate a smooth transition and provide insights into our new 2024 Wellness Initiative, we're hosting virtual meetings with Q&A sessions. These meetings will offer comprehensive information and address any questions you may have regarding the upcoming changes. Please plan to attend.

Virtual meetings are scheduled for Tuesdays, January 9th, 16th, and 23rd at 9 am and Thursdays, January 11th and 18th at noon.

For more meeting details, including virtual meeting login information, contact Employee Benefits at or call 419-213-4189

Commissioners approve new and updated policies

Winter Weather Emergencies: Except in the most extreme circumstances, all Board of Lucas County Commissioners' agencies and departments will remain open for their regularly scheduled times.  However, when severe weather hits, employees may not have to report to work.

Paid Sick Leave for NBU employees: Employees not covered by a bargaining unit now have a detailed sick leave policy.

Temporary COVID-19 Emergency Paid Sick Leave: The Commissioners rescinded this policy.  The COVID-19 Health Emergency ended on May 11, 2023. Due to the decline in severe infections and the availability of vaccines and treatments to reduce the impact of the COVID-19 virus, this additional emergency sick leave is no longer necessary.

Non-RetaliationAnti-Discrimination, and Harassment-Free Work Environment: The Board updated these policies to include information about Lucas County's new, anonymous hotline that employees can utilize to report harassment, discrimination, retaliation, ethical or conduct violations, and workplace violence.  You can learn more about this anonymous service or file a report on our website.
