General Information

The Lucas County Auditor maintains Lucas County Unclaimed Funds listing(xlsx), comprised of payments that were not redeemed by the payee at the time of original issuance. These funds can be formally claimed via the County’s unclaimed funds process, outlined below. If you require assistance, our normal office hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If there is no answer, please leave a message, and someone will get back with you.

Making a Claim for Unclaimed Funds

If you believe that you are entitled to unclaimed funds, you may make your claim by submitting an unclaimed funds claim form and returning it to us at:

Office of Anita Lopez, Lucas County Auditor
Attn: Unclaimed Funds, Disbursements Department
One Government Center, #600
Toledo, OH  43604-2255

Note: Some monies may require a court order, which should be submitted with your claim form.

You may also obtain a form by calling the Auditor's Disbursements Department at (419) 213-4333; or by sending an email.

Unclaimed Funds Form Requirements

Your form cannot be processed without a notarized signature.  Also, if multiple unredeemed payments exist, a form and notarization needs to be completed for each unredeemed payment.

Proof of Claim

All claims must have satisfactory proper proof of claim, to include (but not necessarily limited to):

  • The original check(s), if available.
  • For individuals, a photocopy of the owner's Social Security card and driver's license or State ID is required of ALL claims.
  • If the owner of the funds is a corporation and treated as such for federal income  tax purposes, submit a copy of the front of the tax return (or a document indicating the Federal Identification Number) and individual signing claim form must provide Proof of Authority to claim funds on behalf of the company, such as a corporate resolution or affidavit from a senior officer, as well as verification of the position of both individuals (e.g., Board minutes, SEC filings, directories listing officers, annual reports). Letterhead or business cards are not acceptable proof.

An unclaimed form request will normally process within 15 days.  However, it could take longer if a request was incomplete, or if additional information is requested to verify the claim.

If you require additional information or have a circumstance that is not outlined above, contact our Unclaimed Funds department at (419) 213-4333.

Note:  If you are a professional finder, you must present a valid contract with the claim before the payment is issued.  If requested, the check can be sent to you, in the name of the payee.

You can also search for missing payments on Ohio's unclaimed funds listing. However, please note that you must contact the State of Ohio for those items on Ohio's unclaimed funds listing.
