Throughout the year, the Lucas County Solid Waste Management District hosts
a number of special environmental events. Programs such as the Computer, Cell Phone and
Tire Recycling Day. In addition to its own special events, the District provides
support and waste collection coordinating services for other groups and community
events such as “The Taste of the Town”, the “Rib-off”, and the “Toledo Botanical
Garden events”.
Special Event Recycling Containers Available
KT/LCB will be offering container recycling to groups
conducting fairs and festivals within Toledo and Lucas County.
These recycling containers are easily transported and are
designed to collect plastic and aluminum beverage containers
only. A specially designed lid will keep unwanted trash from
being put into the containers. Groups will be required to
register their event date, submit a collection plan including
number of containers needed, and pick-up and return the
containers to KT/LCB. Recycling containers must be serviced by
event volunteers with the Lucas County Solid Waste Management
District providing free pick-up of recyclables, when possible.
Any group interested in using these portable recycling units,
contact KT/LCB at 419-213-2253 for details. Units have been
provided to KT/LCB through a Waste Management “Think Green”
grant and are available on a first come, first serve basis.
Clothes Collection
For the fourteenth year, KT/LCB held its Clothes Collection to
reinforce the reuse ethic in schools. Nearly 3,500 students
participated in this month long event. KT/LCB gave schools
bags for the children to fill with old clothing and textiles.
The Salvation Army provided delivery of the bags to and from
the schools.
Once again, WTVG 13 ABC partnered with us to extend the program
from schools into the community. Residents were encouraged to
bring their used textiles to the Erie Street Market during the
month of April. Our community collected 93,900 pounds of
clothing! Out of all the textiles collected, wearable items
will be resold through the Salvation Army. Items that are
torn, stained or otherwise unwearable will be recycled into new
fiber to make new cloth, paper, automotive rags, industrial
wiping cloths, and wiping material.
The Clothes Collection was sponsored by the Board of Lucas
County Commissioners, the City of Toledo – Division of Solid
Waste, the Salvation Army, the Erie Street Market, WTVG 13
ABC, and KT/LCB.
