Homestead Exemption

If you are a senior citizen or disabled person and meet the following criteria, you are encouraged to enroll in the homestead program:
  • Applicants who are 65 or older, or totally and permanently disabled. Please note, it does not matter what date you turn 65, as long as you turn 65 some time during the year.
  • If disabled, the applicant is required to have their physician complete the certificate of disability form or submit a certificate from a state or federal agency.
  • Applicants must own and occupy their home or mobile home or have ownership interest in it (i.e. land contract, lease purchase), as of January 1 of the application year.
  • (Effective 2014) New applicants must have an Adjusted Gross Income of $30,500 or less. For faster processing, please include a copy of your 2013 State of Ohio Income Tax filing - for income verification.*Household income includes the income of applicant and applicant's spouse - Social Security income is exempt and is not considered income for the purpose of the Homestead Exemption.
