Checks are written from three accounts: budget, specials, and payroll. Returned checks are then reconciled by the Accounting Department. Along with recording the revenue and expenditures of the county, the auditor's office also accounts for the collection and distribution of property taxes.
Taxes are levied on behalf of the school districts, cities, villages, townships, and park districts within Lucas County. In addition, taxes are also collected for the zoo, library, TARTA, Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority, 9-1-1, and four county social services boards.
