Licensing Your Pet
New for 2014
Lucas County dog owner's now have options when buying their dog license. The standard 1 year dog tag has not changed. Citizens now also have the option of buying either a 3 year tag or a permanent tag instead of the 1 year tag.

Pricing has not changed, just the options available.
1 Year Tag - $25.00 (per dog)
3 Year Tag* - $75.00 (per dog)
Permanent Tag* - $250.00 (per dog)
*3 year and permanent tags are non-transferable. Permanent tags are good for the life of the dog they have been assigned to.

Please note: 3 year tags and permanent tags may only be purchased from the Lucas County Auditor's Office and/or Lucas County Canine Care & Control (formerly known as the Lucas County Dog Warden).

Why Should I License My Dog?
Licensing your dog is required by law. The license on a dog's collar will identify the owner so that the dog can be returned home. If a dog wearing a license is turned into Lucas County Canine Care & Control, the owner will be notified either in person or by phone, and certified mail.

When Should I License My Dog?
All dogs over three months of age must have a new license by January 31, 2014.  The license must be purchased within 30 days after acquiring the dog.  Every registered dog must wear a valid license tag at all times.

How do I Purchase a Dog Tag?
Dog owners may purchase their yearly dog tags beginning December 1 through January 31.

Dog tags can be purchased one of the following ways:
  1. Lucas County Canine Care & Control (Dog Warden) at 410 S. Erie Street
  2. Lucas County Auditor's Office at One Government Center, Suite 770
  3. Area Vendors (1 year tags only). Mapped locations.
  4. Online renewal system

The cost is $25 per dog tag.  (There will be a $25 late fee - per dog tag - applied after the January 31 deadline.)  Registration forms must be postmarked on or by January 31 to avoid late fees.
