Do I have to get a license to sell food?
Yes, anyone who would like to sell food must go through plan review. This includes anyone who would like to operate a food service operation (such as a restaurant or daycare), retail food establishment (such as a grocery store or carry out), or a mobile food service.

What is a temporary food license?
A temporary license is good for the duration of an event, not more than 5 days. A temporary food license application must be completed and delivered in person to the Health Department at least 3 business days prior to the event. An inspector will be assigned to the event. The temporary food stand will be inspected at the time of the event. If the temporary meets food code standards it will be licensed to sell food. No more then 10 temporaries a year may be issued per person/facility.

How do I open a restaurant/carryout/daycare, etc?
You must complete the plan review application packet. The application must be completed and submitted to this department along with the Plan Review fee ($230.00), labeled floor plan, and equipment list. Once the application is complete, contact this department to schedule a time to meet with the inspector to drop off the plan review application.

What is a mobile food license?
A mobile food facility is a mobile cart, vehicle, or tear down mobile that is licensed to move anywhere in the State of Ohio. The mobile food license is good for the license year (March1 - February 28). The county your mobile is stored in is the county that will be your licensor. The mobile food service must not be in one location for more then 40 consecutive days. The mobile planning guide must be completed and submitted to this department for approval.

I am a new owner of an existing restaurant/store. Do I need a license?
Yes, you must contact this department immediately to speak to the inspector assigned to the facility. Food licenses do not transfer to new owners. The facility must be inspected prior to licensing.

I want to start a vending business, what do I need?
A vending machine license is required for all locations that will contain a vending machine that has potentially hazardous food items. Examples include - hot food machines, cold food machines, coffee machines, milk machines, syrup pop machines, ice cream machines. Contact this department to apply for a vending license application. Vending machine locations must be inspected once a year.

Do I need to have commercial equipment in my facility?
Yes, all equipment in a food service operation and retail food establishment must be commercial grade. Do not purchase any equipment until it is approved by the inspector. Make and model numbers must be provided for approval.
8.
Can I cater?
If you are interested in catering you must contact your inspector and fill out a catering application.
