Welcome to the Foreclosure Prevention & Intervention Task Force website. We hope
that the information found here will assist you in finding the help you need to
prevent a foreclosure sale. Fifty percent of all foreclosures can be prevented
by calling and working out terms with your mortgage company. Contact your
mortgage company and ask to speak to their Loss Mitigation Department.
Homeownership preservation is a top priority, and helping homeowners avoid a
foreclosure sale is extremely important. Ohio currently has the unfortunate
distinction of having the highest mortgage foreclosure rate in the United
States, and Lucas County shares in that distinction. This is due in part to a
number of issues, including delinquent real estate taxes, loss of employment,
medical emergency, and predatory lending practice. The high rate of
foreclosures we are experiencing in Lucas County goes directly against efforts
to improve the quality of life for our residents. Lucas County is fighting back.
The Lucas County Commissioners office has joined forces with the Lucas County
Treasurer, the Lucas County Clerk of Courts, and other community agencies in
forming the FORECLOSURE PREVENTION & INTERVENTION TASK FORCE to
assist homeowners who are at risk of losing their homes to foreclosure.
Please know that the best thing you can do is to STAY IN YOUR HOME! Do
not move out of your house, and as you work through the foreclosure process,
assistance is available to you. Whether you are in need of assistance with loan
or foreclosure counseling or help getting out of a predatory loan, we can get
you help.
The Lucas County Foreclosure Prevention & Intervention program consists of free
services offered through the Fair Housing Center, the Northwest Ohio
Development Agency (NODA), and Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS). In
addition, the Lucas County Treasurer’s office offers a Tax Installment Plan for
homeowner occupied residential property, and low interest loans are available
through Neighborhood Housing Services and the Northwest Ohio Development Agency
to bring severely delinquent property taxes current.
The Fair Housing Center, the Northwest Ohio Development Agency, and Neighborhood
Housing Services are all non-profit organizations serving the citizens of Lucas
County. For counseling services on foreclosure prevention, contact one of our
non-profit partners, or call toll free 1-888-995-HOPE. Thank you for
taking the time to visit our website, and we hope that the information
contained therein has been helpful.
We want to work together to keep you in your home.
Sincerely,
